Top 10 romantic European city breaks

With breath-taking medieval castles, charming cobblestone streets and enchanting main squares, European cities are a perfect destination for loved-up couples to enjoy a romantic mini-break.

The travel comparison experts at Tiger.co.uk have created the Best Couple’s City Break Index to help you choose the ideal romantic getaway.

The index features 10 of the most couple-friendly cities across Europe, looking at costs of hotel rooms with a view, the price of a meal for two, the number of landmarks to visit, spa and wellbeing facilities to relax in, and picturesque parks to stroll through.

Coming in at the top of the list is Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, where couples can enjoy romantic sightseeing walks through the Old Town and marvel at the stunning architecture, including the Astronomical Clock, the iconic Charles Bridge and largest castle in Europe. When it is time to escape the hustle and bustle, couples can seek out one of the many idyllic parks and gardens.

• Other categories were determined using Trip Advisor, by searching for ‘Best Things to do for couples’ in each city, and then filtering by the relevant activity, including ‘Sights and Landmarks’, ‘Spa and Wellbeing’ and ‘Nature and Parks’.

• In instances where cities scored the same total number of points, an additional category (Nightlife) was applied on Trip Advisor as a tiebreaker.

• Each city was given a nominal score which was totalled up to give a final ranking.
